Songkran is, without doubt, the greatest water fight in the world!
Every year, millions of Thais join in the fun to mark Thai New Year in their villages, towns and cities. Roads are closed off, people put on colourful clothes and cars are decorated in readiness for the fun. There will often be Miss Songkran pageants and elephants are also decorated to add to the fun.
Other traditions associated with Songkran include the glorious idea that everyone should work as little as possible, they should spend as little as possible and will gain merit by offering food to the monks or gifts to the temple.
Songkran runs from 13-15 April. If you’re in Thailand at this time, then you’re sure to enjoy the fun!
